Open Book Communications is a consulting and creative agency that exists to help mission-driven organizations invite people into their story. As a writer + creative content developer on the team, I worked with clients to develop their organizational story and strategy, then helped them implement it across digital and print platforms—from websites, campaign materials and storybooks to talking points and presentations for leaders. I also assisted in client management, helping ensure our clients were in the loop and up-to-date on where we were at in a project.

TreeHouse

TreeHouse has been serving teens in the Twin Cities for over 40 years, giving them a safe space to process life’s ups and downs, develop healthy relationships, and find support. As TreeHouse looked to grow their model nationwide, they knew they needed a fresh look and articulation of their mission. Open Book Communications partnered with TreeHouse on a new visual identity and approach to their messaging—crafting a story that’s compelling to their donors and honors the teens they serve.

As part of that team and partnership, I wrote content for their new website and for a printed book that helps donors understand the mission and vision of TreeHouse. I also wrote talking points for TreeHouse’s CEO for the event at which they unveiled their new brand.

First Presbyterian Church-Houston

First Presbyterian Church in Houston, TX see their location—as a historic church in the heart of Houston and as individuals in different spheres of influence—as an opportunity to serve. Open Book Communications partnered with them to cast a vision for “Here To Serve,” a capital campaign that launched in the Fall of 2019. Open Book developed a visual brand and key campaign materials to communicate the importance of place as well as a vision-driven movement.

After visiting FPC in Houston and conducting interviews with staff and attendees, I strategized with our team to develop a name, branding, and messaging around this vision campaign. This involved pitching it to the client and creating a presentation to go with the pitch. Once we landed on the name and overarching messaging, I wrote the script for the vision video, as well as content for the campaign book and various supplemental materials.

The New York Project

For the past four years, Open Book Communications has partnered with The New York Project to brand and produce their annual donor event, Momentum Weekend. The New York Project is a 10-year vision to create a tipping point of spiritual renewal in center-city Manhattan, and was created through a partnership between Redeemer Churches and Redeemer City to City. Inspired by the location of the event and the strength of diversity through collaboration, Open Book Communications provided creative direction and a messaging framework that informed a suite of event materials—all to illustrate the story of: “God is building bridges of uncommon unity in New York.”

As part of this project, I created content for the weekend materials—a vision book and a weekend schedule book—as well as writing talking points for speakers throughout the weekend.

Riverbridge

Riverbridge is an investment firm in downtown Minneapolis. As one of Open Book Communications ongoing clients, we provided them with marketing, communications, and event support, year-round. I crafted messaging for events, wrote content for marketing materials and the website, including quarterly emails, and helped develop a tutorial video on how to use their client portal.
